How to calculate a price with fees and taxes
This pricing calculator, sometimes called a pricing simulator or selling price calculator, starts with every fixed cost you pay per unit, such as product cost, packaging, shipping, materials, or labor. Then add the percentage costs that come out of the listed price, including marketplace and payment-processing fees. Finally, choose the net profit margin you want to keep.
Selling on Amazon? Try the Amazon FBA Fee Calculator, which starts from Amazon referral and fulfillment fees. Selling on Etsy? Use the Etsy Fee Calculator, which starts from Etsy listing, transaction and processing fees. Selling on eBay? Use the eBay Fee Calculator.
The calculator finds the listed price that covers those costs while preserving your target margin. Taxes added on top at checkout are shown separately because the customer pays them in addition to the listed price.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a selling price with fees?
Add fixed costs, then divide the total by one minus your percentage costs and target net margin. Enter the values above and the calculator does this for you.
Should sales tax count as a cost?
Not when it is added at checkout and passed through. Treat it as a cost only when you absorb it or it is withheld from your listed price.
What is net profit margin?
It is the share of the listed price you keep after costs, fees, and taxes deducted from the price.
Why can no selling price work?
The percentage costs deducted from the price plus your target net margin must stay below 100%.
